HSA President Ron Tintner

Ron Tintner – I moved to Houston in 2000 and have been a member of HSA since 2005. I joined HSA because I was looking to get together with others who enjoy songwriting – I was involved in the Dallas Songwriters Association in the early 90's. I'm active in some other Houston-area songwriting and music groups and on "The Muse's Muse" Internet Forum. I have been writing songs off and on since I was a kid in the 60’s and 70's, but got more involved since the early 90's and very heavily invested since 2005. I play guitar, keyboards, bass, ukulele, and a smattering of other instruments. My music crosses a variety of genres including Pop-Rock, Bossa Nova and Beach/Ukulele. I have been in bands off and on since I was 14, rock, standards, folk, jazz, etc. and most recently as the keyboard player in a variety-rock cover band called "Double Vision" composed primarily of neurologists and ophthalmologists at the Texas Medical Center. Currently I usually perform live solo on guitar, uke or keyboards. Primarily though, I record and have a studio in my house. I collaborate on song writing extensively with people all over the world, via the internet.
Ron is currently the president of the HSA.

HSA Secretary/Treasurer Pat Bishop

I started writing song lyrics in October 2000. I really didn’t know there was so much more to writing lyrics than just putting words on a page and having a verse and chorus with some kind of melody to create what I thought “was a song” and I wondered why Ray Charles or Tina Marie or Willie Nelson would not respond to my requests to collaborate with me on the lyrics that I sent them (duh!!!). It was not until I joined Houston Songwriters Association in July 2001 (recommended by my daughter-in-law, Esther) that, yes, there was an “art and craft” to songwriting. I learned so much about songwriting from the meetings and members of HSA and miraculously, some of them took a chance and started collaborating with me. As of this writing (Jan. 2012) I have done more than 50 collaborations with many of the HSA members and have also branched out to songwriters in other states through the internet. Songwriting is my passion and HSA is my “music family” home.
Pat took on the role as Secretary/Treasurer of HSA in June 2008.

I have an extensive musical background which includes playing in a rock band in Houston in the late 60's, then country bands (and even a polka band) in the 1970's. I was a soloist in my church in the 1980's, then "retired" from publicly performing music until 2003, when I met Jerry Campbell and we began performing as a duet called "Buddy and Jerry." After several years of live performances, I decided to focus on recorded music, and joined Danny Liggett as a principal of "The Overtone Gang." I play guitar, bass, keyboards, and saxophone. I have been writing songs since 2003, and sincerely enjoy the songwriting process.

Critique Meister Andrew Richardson

I have been a member of HSA since 2006. For alcoholics, there is alcoholics anonymous. For people who are sick, there are hospitals. For songwriters who cannot get control over their musical habit, there is the Houston Songwriters Association. I come to the meetings half to show my latest creations, but half just to meet other people with a common passion. I write folk-pop-alt-rock songs primarily on guitar, and spend late hours recording them in my bedroom. I also play in a traditional Scottish/Irish band when the muse forsakes me!
Andrew is the critique meister for the monthly meetings and serves as a Director.

I have been a member of HSA since 2003. I joined HSA at that time because I was new to the Houston area and was looking for others who enjoy songwriting. I have been writing songs since the late 80’s. Primarily I play the acoustic guitar but I also play a little bit of keyboard, mandolin, bass and percussion. I learn to play instruments just well enough to record the songs I write. It is hard to nail down what genre I would consider myself. If I had to pick one it would be Pop-Rock. Most of the songs fit in that area somewhere between country, folk and rock. I am part of a band called “The Overtone Gang”. We do not play live but enjoy the art and craft of songwriting and the recording process. We have recorded and produced three CDs on our own (no record deal).
Danny is the Webmaster for the HSA Website and serves as a Director.
